Skiin Injection Therapy

Neuromodulators, including Daxxify and Botox, are injectable medicines that temporarily freeze wrinkles by injecting a small amount of botulinum toxin into the underlying muscles, causing them to relax and smooth the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects of these injections typically last for several months and many people receive multiple injections each year to maintain the appearance of smooth, wrinkle-free skin.

The FDA approved Daxxify based on clinical trial data from over 2,700 patients who received a total of 4,200 treatments. After one month, 98% of patients had little to no appearance of wrinkles. Half of the patients were completely or nearly wrinkle-free at the injection site after six months, and some people still had results after nine months

Botox is approved by the FDA for a variety of uses, including the treatment of chronic migraines, overactive bladder, and severe underarm sweating. Daxxify has only been approved to smooth frown lines, while Botox is also approved to treat crow's-feet and forehead wrinkles. While companies cannot promote drugs for unapproved uses, doctors can prescribe drugs for off-label use, and it is likely that Daxxify will be used in this way like Botox.

Daxxify is believed to be more effective than other neuromodulators, such as Botox, in reducing wrinkles for longer periods of time. While most neuromodulators are reported to last between three and five months, patients typically only experience effects for three months. Daxxify, on the other hand, has been reported to last for about six months to nine months, which means fewer office visits and happier patients. Daxxify is also made from peptides or amino acids, rather than human or animal products like other neuromodulators, and does not require refrigeration.
