Fall into great skiin

Fall may signal the return of plaid and Pumpkin Spice Lattes (no comment), but it also signals something you may have overlooked: a skincare regimen change-up. Because while finding that perfect cozy sweater to tuck into is easy enough, knowing exactly what’s happening to your skin as it transitions is a bit trickier. And it (unfortunately) shows. Here’s what you need to know about cold weather and skin health:

Zaps Moisture

Quench your skin’s thirst for more moisture by adding some essential hydration-packed products to your routine.

Causes Sallow Complexion

Bring back skin’s luster with monthly maintenance.

Depletes Internal Hydration

Eat and drink your way to a healthier, more hydrated complexion.

A gentle cleanser that hydrates while gently cleansing away dirt, debris, oil, and makeup is essential to keeping skin soft and supple.
We love: Revision Skincare’s Gentle Cleansing Lotion

A vitamin-rich, hydrating serum is ideal to help seal in moisture without blocking pores while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

We love:  Revision Skincare’s Hydrating Serum

A moisturizer packed with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants is key in maintaining moisture levels

and reduce redness and inflammation while helping to calm and combat drynes.

We love: Glowbiotics MD’s Calm After the Storm

Cold temps constrict blood vessels and thus can hinder circulation, causing your complexion to look sallow. To ensure a healthy, radiant glow,  we highly suggest monthly maintenance with the Oxygen Facial. It helps to stimulate circulation along with a bevy of many other benefits.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day will keep your skin moisturized and help eliminate toxins effectively. Have an extra glass of water for every glass of alcohol/cup of coffee you take to prevent possible dehydration. Ingesting foods rich inOmega-3 essential fatty acids and antioxidants such as polyphenols, Vitamins A, C and E can help reverse summer damage, prepare it for the challenges it will face during fall and winter and boost the skin’s immune system while preserving its quality and restoring its natural glow.

The 411 on PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for Skin Rejuvenation

PRP has a long history of being used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery, and now its benefits are being applied to other fields of medicine such as dermatology, skin wound healing, and cosmetic facial rejuvenation. Scientific studies dating back 30 years have documented that PRP grows new collagen when delivered into the skin, and newer studies show that PRP can soften sun damage, skin texture, and the signs of aging.

Yes, your fountain of youth lies within you. Your very own plasma helps address a bevy of skin issues, including but not limited to:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rosacea
  • Acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Elastosis
  • Dull, lifeless complexion

What is PRP

A small amount of blood is drawn from you and placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma (PRP). Platelets help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP that is penetrated into the skin by way of microneedling, acts as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow as it regenerates tissue and increases blood flow to naturally smooth, tighten, brighten, and oxygenate the skin. The result? Softer, smoother, and more supple skin with increased elasticity and hydration levels.

PRP stimulates your own collagen to grow which promotes total facial rejuvenation, yielding long lasting results.  This treatment improves overall volume, fullness, and skin tone and acts to improve overall quality, tightness, and texture of the skin.

The goal of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to improve skin tone and texture, tighten skin, soften lines and pores. Results begin to show immediately and increase over time.  Initially, three treatment sessions are recommended at four weeks apart, to achieve the best outcome.  Maintenance is scheduled as needed following the first three treatments.

We are currently in the process of training our staff to provide you with the highest level of service and the most intelligent results. We are excited to bring this truly remarkable rejuvenating treatment to you. Contact us today for more information: 262-657-5446

The Low Down on Acne Down Low

No pimple is created equal— Nor are the ways you conquer them. Here we give us the scoop on how to get rid of those pesky breakouts without wreaking havoc on your skin.

When a blemish appears, your body has incredible repair responses (unless an immune deficiency disorder is playing a role) that immediately recognize when an infection is present and then kick your white blood cells into high gear to heal it. The only real problem arises when you either think you’re helping or just plain “can’t take it,” and interfere with these natural healing processes, which ultimately makes things worse.

When you get a red, painful blemish, ONE of two things will happen: The infection inside the blemish will work its way up to the surface of the skin, resulting in a whitehead. This type of blemish is called a pustule. Sometimes the infection will NOT come up to the surface. It will stay deep within the skin until the body eventually re-absorbs it. I’m just going to hang out down here for a bit. This type of blemish is called a cyst.

Treating Pustular Blemishes
DO NOT TOUCH. It’s best to not act the minute you feel it coming on—instead wait a day or two for the infection to appear on the surface. Waiting will allow you to effectively control the blemish without damaging the skin. Once the whitehead is truly visible, gently squeeze out the infection with your fingers wrapped in tissue, and then apply a spot-drying treatment, we recommend mybody’s myHELPER, which will work its way into the skin and eradicate any lingering infection. If you apply a drying treatment before the whitehead is on the surface, it will simply dry out the surface of the skin, keeping the infection trapped underneath for longer. This will cause the infection to stretch to the surrounding skin tissue, which sets off a response that creates discoloration and leaves behind a dark acne scar that will linger for weeks or even months (reminding you well after it is healed what an atrocity it was).

What You Can Do About the Cystic Ones
Mostly occurring on the chin and jaw areas, it is important to remember that cysts will NEVER emerge onto the skin’s surface with a pustular whitehead. No matter what method you employ, cysts will never rise to the surface of the skin. WE MEAN ABSOLUTELY NO PICKING. EVER. Your best bet is to treat the cyst with gentle skincare, no physical exfoliation, and deep penetrating ingredients that will help treat infection and soothe the irritated layers of skin. We recommend a daily routine of myody skincare’s Take Control cleanser, Calm After the Storm serum, and Safety Blanket moisturizer and a spot treatment or weekly mask ritual of mybody’s Let Me Clarify to address the bevy of skin concerns with cystic acne. If the cysts worsen, seek medical attention from a dermatologist.

Also take note that using a daily regimen that helps keep skin hydrated, balanced, and protected is a great way to keep acne at bay. Hormones, stress, weather, diet, and genes all play an important role in skin types and conditions, so be aware of changes and have the appropriate treatments on hand.

See Spot Run

Seeing Spots? One of the most common misconceptions about discolored skin is that it will fade away by itself and that no treatment, of any kind, is necessary. Some types of pigmentation, like those caused by acne, can eventually lighten up over time  (time being the operative word as it can take a few months, if not longer before you see a difference). Is this a home care regimen solution? Partially. Addressing pigment is twofold – discoloration needs to be aggressively treated with office treatments and high-powered home care to fully eradicate spots on the surface. Not sure what to get done to see spot run (for good)? We’ve got the answers here.

If You Have Minimal Darkness, Try Microdermabrasion
During microdermabrasion, the uppermost layer of skin is gently removed, providing a smooth luminous, and clear complexion while reducing the appearance hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. We LOVE and use Viora’s Pristine Diamond Tip.

If You Have More Stubborn Spots, Try a Chemical Peel
Salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and TCA chemical peels are often recommended to banish discoloration. Chemical peels are powerful at speeding up results and removing deeper pigment. Their potency can be manipulated to suit the type and depth of pigment. However, not every skin color is suitable for a peel, and if you have a history of scarring, you will need to find other options. We cannot get enough of the Glytone Professional Peels. They brighten, lighten, tighten, and address a bevy of skin concerns.

If You Have Discoloration From the Sun, Try Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
A popular choice for targeting sun-induced discoloration, IPL involves light-based energy pulsed onto the skin while simultaneously targeting blood vessels. The light seeks out the discoloration in the skin to lift it up and out, providing you with an exceptionally clear complexion. IPL may cause some flaking and bronzing of the skin for a few days after the treatment.

If You Have Serious Discoloration That Won’t Budge, Try C02 Laser Resurfacing

This takes resurfacing to a whole other level. Two types of lasers most commonly used in laser resurfacing are carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium. Each laser vaporizes skin cells damaged at the surface-level, providig a controlled and deep burn to the skin, promoting rejuventation and resurfacing. This skin will take up to two weeks to heal but the results are well worth it. The skin is firmer, healthier, and the complexion and tone are smooth and even.

No matter what course of treatment you go with, it’s important to avoid the sun and shield your skin with sunscreen every day. A broad-spectrum SPF of 15 is perfect in battling the sun’s harmful rays. Avoiding the sun at all costs, though, will be your best bet in addressing those pesky spots of excess pigment. The Skinny on Fat

FAT. The word itself has the power to instantly make us feel unattractive and tell us we’re not up to par with our diet and fitness regimen. *Le Sigh* But to a doctor, all fat isn’t just a bevy of emotions that accompany a word. Fat comes in different forms and a variety of ways to treat it. Who knew there were different types of fat on our bodies and that each requires a different treatment plan to get rid of it? Well, consider yourself informed! Here, we give you the scoop to steer you in the right direction so you know exactly what to do in order to get the body you want.

Fluffy Fat

This type of fat sits happily under the skin with few dense connections. You see it most on the abdomen and outer thighs. It’s the Pillsbury rolls; the jiggle in the middle; the protective padding of the hips. The good news? This ‘soft’ fat typically responds well to diet and exercise, but if you’re not seeing results with a regular routine, cryolipolysis, such as CoolSculpting, is a great option to treat it. It’s also easily removed with just about any type of liposuction.

Fibrous Fat

This type of fat is more dense and challenging to treat. Naturally found on the upper back in particular (think pesky under-bra rolls), this type can easily be treated with liposuction and cryolipolysis, depending on the thickness and density of the fat.

 Visceral Fat

This is the firm fat, primarily in the abdomen, that lives below our muscles and surrounds our internal organs like our heart and intestines. Having more visceral fat can result in higher LDL levels (“bad” cholesterol) and blood pressure, which can be dangerous to a person’s health. This fat only responds to diet and exercise. A diet high in whole grains, lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and low on alcohol and miscellaneous sugars that don’t provide nutrients and tend to result in visceral fat.

Is such a  dirty word. It’s made up of fat in tiny dimple compartments—fibrous bands attach to the skin and create pockets, which act like walls to contain pockets of fat, and the attachments pull on the surface of the skin, creating dimples—cellulite is best treated by a procedure that breaks down those fibrous walls and gets rid of the fat at the same time. Much to our comfort: about 85 percent of women have cellulite, and good hydration may help reduce the appearance of it! Much to our despair: diet and exercise cannot remove it. We’d be willing to wager that there’s probably a Nobel Prize awaiting the person who effectively and permanently solves the cellulite problem. Until then, at least we can be united in knowing we are not alone in this battle.

So there you have it. Diet and exercise are your friends. But if stubborn fat is your worst enemy, contact us today at 262-657-5446 to make your complimentary consultation for Coolsculpting and/or liposuction!

Clean Slate: Anti-Aging Skincare

If you’re looking to get rid of wrinkles or age spots, improve irregular pigmentation, and have an overall brighter complexion with younger looking skin, out top picks can help you address your concerns, treat the current state of your skin, and prevent future damage form occurring.

Every major skin care brand has anti-aging products – some are pretty good and others are worthless. As a consumer, it’s hard to rate anti-aging skin care products because you need to know the anti-aging skin care research, the chemistry involved in making skin care products, and the quality of a company’s chemist and product ingredients. Even then, it doesn’t hurt to be able to enlist a lot of volunteers to try the products so that you can see the results. That’s what we do, and that’s why we only use the highest quality, medical skincare available. Our line of boutique skincare options are crafted through extensive scientific research and are only available for purchase through medical practices  – not department stores, drug stores, or salons and spas.

Don’t waste any time when it comes to starting an anti-aging skin care routine – you want to ‘stop the clock’ on skin aging as soon as possible! Time really is of the essence. Whether you are just looking for the best sunscreen to stop additional sun damage or you want a product that will soften wrinkles, reduce age spots, or load your skin with age-fighting antioxidants, you need to sort through the millions of products on the market. We have a list of what we recommend and why we recommend it.

A broad spectrum sunscreen. Sunscreen needs to be worn every day on exposed skin and should contain 5% or more zinc oxide for the best protection to fight UV damage.

A product that contains ingredients capable of stimulating new collagen synthesis (collagen renewal) inside your skin. The only three proven ingredient actives for collagen synthesis are retinoids, vitamin C, and glycolic acid. The “devil is in the details” however, and most products are not created with either enough of these ingredients or stable formulations of these ingredients. Antioxidant-rich products with green tea polyphenols and vitamin C. These two antioxidants have solid scientific evidence proving that they really work to help fight skin damage that leads to aging. Again, most products on the market contain a fairy dusting of these ingredients incorrectly formulated, meaning they will not deliver the promised results. You’ll see the transformation in the mirror once you add them to your complete anti-aging skin care routine.

Skin brighteners. These include physical exfoliating scrubs, brushes, or sponges, as well as ingredient actives that remodel and brighten your complexion, such as retinoids and AHA/BHAs like glycolic acid. We’re proud to have the best products that can get you the best results available today. Know you are using only proven anti-aging ingredients and concentrating your efforts on only what works, not on marketing fantasies. Build your anti-aging skin care routine from my compatible products, and we believe you can’t find a more effective anti-aging skin care routine anywhere. The products here represent the best quality anti-aging wrinkle creams, skin brighteners, sunscreens, antioxidant products, and all the products you need for skin rejuvenation. Build your complete anti-aging skin care routine with my proven products and see what a difference it makes!

We recommend a Complete Skin Care Routine including these steps and products:

Cleanse – Revision’s Brightening Facial Wash
Correct – Revision’s Vitamin C Lotion 30%, mybody’s A TEAM, and Revision’s Nectifirm
Hydrate – mybody’s myHERO Probiotic Replenishing Lotion
Protect – Revision’s Multi-Protection Broad-Spectrum SPF 50

Some products can serve more than one step and are listed under every step they can address. Understand that the most important products in an anti-aging skin care routine are used in steps 2 and 4, which are the steps for Correct and Protect.

Cleansers and moisturizers should support the products you use in these steps. Pick your cleanser and moisturizer based on your skin type and how they make your skin feel. Pick your sunscreen for step 4 (protect) based on your skin type and product preference. Pick products for step 2 (correct) based on your goals, budget, and how your skin responds to the rejuvenating ingredients.

Our  goal is to help you ‘stop the clock’ on your skin’s aging, and these products and my unique regimen kits will help you do just that.

SPF: Three little letters with huge benefits

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month
With 3.5 million cases in over two million people diagnosed annually, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Awareness is the first step in treating and preventing skin cancer.
Be informed. Be proactive. Be protected.

You’re a pro when it comes to protecting against sun damage – You’ve got sunscreen on your key chain, in your lip balm, and all over your skin. But you could still have plenty of sun damage left over from your youth (the memories of iodine and baby oil are not distant enough). The accumulation of damage isn’t just skin deep – UV radiation alters the actual DNA of your skin cells, resulting in lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and even cancer. But here’s a ray of (UV-free) light: You can reverse the damage. Using SPF daily will stop the process of additional damage and start to reverse, to some extent, what you’ve already accumulated. Additionally, incorporating the following products into your daily regimen will help obliterate the signs of a sun-filled past.

Light the way with Vitamin A

Reduce wrinkles, fade brown spots, and smooth roughness with this power-packed skin supplement. Vitamin A exfoliates, making skin smooth and even-toned; repairs the cellular structure of the epidermis, optimizing your UV protection; and decreases clustering of melanin granules, reducing brown spots or pigmentation.

We Love: mybody’s A TEAM

This dynamic anti-aging and clarifying treatment helps minimize fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and blemishes and helps increase new cellular regeneration without typical redness or peeling.

Proven to effectively increase new cellular regeneration

Provides maximum anti-aging effects with minimal to no redness or inflammation

Visible reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and a clearer complexion

“C” clearly now the pigment is gone

Vitamin C is an essential component in the body’s production of collagen and a potent antioxidant that can help rejuvenate aged and photodamaged skin.
As levels of vitamin C in the skin decline with age, replenishing levels directly in the skin can help combat collagen degradation and oxidative stress. Results from clinical trials show that when applied topically, vitamin C promotes collagen formation and mitigates the effects of free radicals, helping to maintain firm and youthful skin.

We Love: mybody’s BRIGHTAMIN-C

This radical lipid-based Vitamin C works more effectively to brighten, lift and tighten while imparting antioxidant protection.

Regnerates healthy collagen for maximum resilience

Reduces wrinkles and other signs of photodamage

Fights free radical damage more efficiently

Protect and Serve

To use SPF is a no brainer – we know, you have it on your key chain, in your lip balm, in spray form, balm form, and lotion form. But do you have it in an all-in-one magical product that also adapts to your skin color and helps hydrate and tone the skin? We didn’t think so.

We love: Revision Skincare’s Intellishadde

Outsmart the signs of aging® with this award-winning tinted moisturizer that gives skin a touch of sheer, healthy color. Formulated with a blend of three peptides and broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, it’s the smart way to care for your skin. Whether you perform a dewy, hydrated finish or more of a matte effect, they have options for you.

94% of clinical study participants experienced smoother, brighter, more even-toned skin*

Moisturizes and blends naturally with the color of your skin

Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Provides broad-spectrum UV protection

Fights photodamage which causes premature aging

Microneedling for Increased Skin Firmness

A loss of elasticity (tone and firmness) in the skin, known as elastosis, is a natural part of the aging process. This sagging skin is defined significantly by the condition of the underlying muscles but also by the breakdown of the connective tissues in the skin that provide flexibility and firmness, known as collagen and elastin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that is responsible for the firmness in skin, while elastin is a protein that gives skin elasticity. Elastin helps skin to return to its natural position after being manipulated. Collagen does have some elastic properties, however it is elastin that provides the skin with flexibility and resiliency.

Elastosis is most commonly seen on skin that has been exposed to ultraviolet rays over many years; however, this problem can also arise for other reasons, such as substantial weight loss in a short period of time, Vitamin deficiencies, hormonal changes, smoking, poor diet, and lack of hydration. However, not everyone experiences excessive sagging skin, which supports the theory that environmental issues play a large factor in elastosis. Nevertheless, the body naturally stops producing these collagen and elastin as it ages, resulting in some loss of volume and firmness.
The skin goes through substantial variations, especially during menopause. This happens as a result of the hormonal fluxuations in the body resulting in reduction of estrogen production. Estrogen is responsible for collagen formation, and as estrogen is manufactured less by our bodies thus is collagen. Diminished firmness, wrinkles, as well as the feeling of drier and thinner skin is a result of this hormonal change.

Elastosis is a common problem among mature clients. The application of microneedling with water-based, natural serums and ampoules, formulated with specific skin enhancing ingredients, such as Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and retinols can improve clients’ sagging jaw and cheeks issues.

The use of microneedling enhances absorption of active ingredients up to 400 percent without removing the dermis or damaging the epidermis, especially in the case of skin elastosis that cannot endure any more damage. Treatment must be followed with a serum based on hyaluronic acid to strengthen the bonds between collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin and aids in barrier strength, hydration, reduced inflammation and increased firmness. Application of a moisturizer with sunscreen after treatment is a must. Having a client consultation, in addition to providing home care products, is a key to successful treatment. Contact us today to schedule your microneedling consultation today: 262-657-5446.

The FAQs on LHR

Laser hair removal (LHR), or as some refer to it is “a miracle”, is a medical procedure that uses a laser (intense, pulsating beam of light) to remove unwanted hair. The process consists of a laser beam passing through the skin to individual hair follicles, damaging the hair follicle and inhibiting future hair growth, with its intense heat. When initially introduced, laser hair removal was most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair. Now, with ever-evolving technology, certain lasers are being manufactured to use on all skin types and colors.

The FAQs on LHR

  1. How many treatments are usually necessary?

The number and frequency of treatments required varies for each individual. Factors such as the location and color of the unwanted hair, hormonal influences, and even some medications can all have an effect on your LHR treatment. During a complimentary comprehensive consultation, we would go over all factors regarding LHR and you.

  1. Is Laser Hair Removal safe?

Laser hair removal is a very safe procedure, when attended to by adequately trained medical staff, produces long term results. All of our thoroughly trained technicians have been certified and continue with ongoing education to ensure their knowledge and your safety. In every facet of our business, we are dedicated to producing intelligent results – We have seen many unfortunate problems occur over the years with poorly trained staff at many of these franchise and chain hair removal clinics. The cheapest is not always a safe option!

  1. Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?

It is simply not possible to guarantee permanent hair removal. Permanent hair reduction, however, is possible. Unfortunately, dormant hair follicles may become active later in life and respond to hormonal influences, medications and other possible causes.

  1. Can all types of hair be treated?

All hair types can be treated with the Ellman or M22 lasers we employ, but technology has yet to prove effective on blonde, red and grey hair. The laser targets the pigment (color) located in the hair follicle which is why clients with darker hair generally achieve the best results from LHR.

  1. How much does Laser Hair Removal cost?

Here at skiin Anti-Aging Lounge, cost varies between each individual according to the density of unwanted hair and also the size of the area you are having treated. Subsequent treatment times will reduce and in turn, cost you less. Our comprehensive consultations are always complimentary. For further information or to have some more questions answered, contact us today 262-657-5446.
